A Procrastination Buster You Can Use Now
Procrastination can keep you from implementing a high-powered project. The next time you feel like resisting taking a step forward towards completing your project stop and consider organizing one corner of your office space or 3 files that are associated with the project you are working on.
Fragmentation due to disorganization leads to procrastination. When you take a step in the direction of organization around a project, even if it is a small corner of organization, you will find that you create simplicity. Simplicity leads to clarity of focus, and clarity of focus leads to action based living. Remember the last stress relief tip addressed a popular program that is often associated with procrastination: In order to accept myself I need to be perfect, I am resisting taking a step towards completing this project for fear of possible rejection, by myself or those around me.
Perfectionism and procrastination often walk hand in hand. Reflect on this statement: I am willing to accept myself and honor my unique creativity with or without accomplishing this project. You will find you often release new energy to move forward when you remember you are OK just as you are, “What would you dare to do if you knew you could not fail.” This unknown author understood a key element that needs to be in place for advancement to take place. The ability to create can only take place in the presence of freedom.
Great relationships in life flow from your highest relationship: Your relationship with God, which fuels your sense of identity and belief systems, which ignite your ability to access your God given capabilities and talents which put into motion your behavior in your environment. Reorganize your priorities around your highest relationships and your need to be defined by what you do and the response of those around you will fall to the way side leaving room for the confident Spirit that is woven within your being for excellence in this world. Procrastination takes a back seat when a sense of purpose is driving your behavior.
Grab & Go Stress Solutions Tip =>
You have heard me reference “Close the LOOP for Less Stress &
More Mind Space.” I am referring to your action loop. You
start a task, which opens an action loop, then a shiny object
pops up in your mind and you jump to another action which opens
up another loop: Action => Behavior/Change => Stop. All
of the sudden you have filled your mind space with a bunch
of open loops which under the mental radar are slowly
sucking out your energy, motivation and focus which
often times results in procrastination and/or overwhelm.
Our brain’s ability to highly function thrives on 1 task at a time.
Multi-tasking actually results in brain fatigue and stress.
This week, keep it simple and focused, you lack nothing
in the present moment. Be here NOW, close your
action loops. Start what you want to start one task at
a time. Commit to finishing that task before jumping to another task.
Even if you commit to moving forward on a project for a 1/2
hour, set your alarm and turn off all distractions, giving your
mind the ability to completely jump into the task at hand before
you jump to another task.
You will find when you approach your
“to do list” with this clarity of focus and commitment that
you experience deeper satisfaction and task completion.
