When Your World Stops

What to Do When Your World Stops:

Learning & Retention Tip: Seek Out 1-3 specific pieces ofinformation that have value and significance to you. Write it down and reviewit 2 times in 24 hours.

On Tuesday, after 54 hours of natural labor my oldest daughter gave birthto an 8 lb baby girl: Therese Zelie, because of the intensity of delivery, mydaughter hemorrhaged and my world stopped.

When priorities are clear, decisions are easy. The clients and meetingsscheduled for this past week into part of next week quickly got bumped into thefuture so that I could be hear now with my daughter in her recoveryjourney.

Back in 2006 my world stopped as well, when I was diagnosed with advancedcancer one week prior to my final divorce court date.

With three young children, 8, 10 and 12 I had one focus: CHOOSE LIFE nomatter what the doctors told me I gave more authority to the strength of Godwithin me than to the diagnosis for the sake of three lives that depended uponmy presence on earth.

If I gave authority to the diagnosis to define what I believed I couldhandle successfully in and through the strength of God, I would not be here towitness the birth of my first Grandchild and care for my daughter.

What does it mean when your world stops?

Your world stops when the things that have been occupying your mindinstantly drop out of your metal radar and are replaced with a clarity of focusaround what you value most in life as a result of a life changing event.Clarity of focus leads to accuracy of response.

When was the last time your world stopped?

Can you imagine if you could transfer the experience of claritygained as a result of acute focus around what you value most how quicklyyou would be able make decisions?

This is applicable professionally and personally.

In Sherpa Executive Coaching we offer clients a tool called:ValuesClarification. It is one of my favorite tools because when you know whatyou value most, as well as what the people entrusted to your care value most, your ability to lead with impact expands dramatically.

Do you know your top 5 Values in Life?

Many times stress and anxiety increase when your behavior is not alignedwith what you value most.

Why?

Because your soul knows you are compromising the person you are created tobe. Perhaps for a specific position? Or maybe for power? Popularity orPossessions?

At one point during my 5 year journey of treatment, I experienced a MRSAstaph infection that pushed me into a near death experience. The only thing Iremember was this thought:

How well did I love and serve those entrusted to my care?

Human beings make up families, teams and organizations.

When we get back to our basic needs for safety, security, meaning andsignificance, we can create cultures and environments that nurturefulfillment of those deep needs.

No degree, certification or achievement can dilute our basic needs.

People before things will always have the last say at the sunset of this lifeand will result in the biggest positive impact personally andprofessionally.

Take Action:

When your world stops. Pause and breathe.

Remember, you are not alone. Look at this as an opportunity to resurrectwhat you value most to the front lines of your behavior.

Identify and adjust perspectives, conclusions and behavior that have wondered away from what you value most.
