How To Release Past and Future Mind Muck
Past and future mind muck block us from gaining powerful lessons for future victories. The smell of rain can help reduce stress and boost your mood. The below blog offers some powerful questions that could guide you into the experience of dancing in the rain. A special prayer goes out to all of those who lost their lives on 9-11-2001, as well as their family and friends, including our dear friend Bill, Bill and all who knew and loved him.
Have you ever laid awake ruminating over the following 2 thoughts:
“I need to know how things are going to turn out.”
“I need to know why things happened as they did.”
Can you imagine the head space cleared up if we regained the ability to step away from the need to know how things will turn out and why things happen as they do?
I remember as I went through advanced cancer and divorce at the same time spending way too much time spinning myself into an anxiety storm over those two thoughts. Many people asked me why I thought I got cancer in the first place. My initial response is always the same: we live in a toxic world, not just within the foods we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe but in the thoughts we think. AsDr. Bruce Liptonhas been known to say, “Be very careful what you think because your body is listening.”
Anytime we give power to a situation or circumstance to define our worth, value and capability (spiritually, emotionally, mentally or physical), we render ourselves vulnerable to late night mental muck as we lay awake desperately trying to access information that is beyond our grasp. The simple cure for feeling safe “NOT KNOWING” lies in our ability to step into the experience of surrender and trust.
Are you having a hard time needing to know why things happened as they did? Are you feeling anxious about your future?
Below are questions that facilitate a learning mindset, which allows up to lean back into the experience of surrender and trust. Perhaps you have heard of the mantra: Let Go and Let God. This is a space that I finally found in the eye of the storm which opened up the floodgates of my mind, releasing inner peace and confidence.
What do you want to remember that will increase your ability to trust that you can handle any situation that pops up in your life?
What is the a gift or opportunity in the past experience that you are having a hard time letting go of?
What could you remember about your past that contradicts your present fear of the future? Perhaps it’s simply, “I have gone through challenging times before and I am willing to explore the possibility that I can do it again?”
What forward action step can you take today which will offer you a sense of empowerment over future fear? Perhaps it’s filling out a job application or calling a mentor for guidance?
Take back your God given ability to remember that you are still here on this journey of life, you have been falling down and getting back up since your first step.
What could you remember today to bring you more confidence tomorrow?
When I was a freshman in college I covered the walls of my dorm room with reminders of what is possible, that I am not alone, God is with me. One statement in particular popped into my mind when I was in a fearful moment: “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future.” I remember when I did not know if I could make it through 5 years of treatment saying a simple mantra throughout the day: “Be here now. God is with me, all things are possible.”
What inspirational statement can you write down this week to help you shake off the monkey mind that only exists when our thoughts wander into the past or future. What could you do now to make inner peace and confidence your mental screen saver?
