Stress Solutions for the Soul: March 1, 2014
“The world and its desires pass away but the man who
does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:17
Some of history’s greatest spiritual leaders have
agreed that the root of all unhappiness lies in desire.
You may say, “If I don’t desire something to be so then
it will never happen.”
Because desire often walks hand in hand with
attachment, we are rendered vulnerable to the negative
emotional flare-up of worry, fear and doubt that we will
not get that which we desire in life and/or if we do get
what we desire we fear that we may lose it: popularity;
status; recognition; material gain; physical excellence;
momentary order and sense of
accomplishment.
Dear God,
I want one desire that will never leave me mucking
around in fear, doubt or worry: to love, serve and
honor you above any passing shiny object in my life that
can not go with me beyond the pine box. I want to
desire the attributes and character that flow from your
Holy Spirit within me. Protect me from compliments and
complaints that my heart would remain grounded in the
mission for which it beats.
