Stress Solutions for the Soul: July 12, 2014
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world
yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in
exchange for their soul?” Matthew 16:26
Often times God will thump me on the head and say, “Hey
remember you’re not here to be liked, you are here to
grow in your ability to love and serve.”
Really? Sometimes I think I’m here to gain praise and
popularity. Even when I’m not consciously aware of it, my
hunger for those two emotional responses
is revealed each time I get flared-up inside when I don’t
receive them. Sound familiar?
Often times we are unaware of a spiritual leak in our
system until our emotional response reveals it through
irritation; anger; jealousy; envy; ruminating or entitlement.
Drag the source of the leak out into the light as quickly as
possible through your awareness: a desire to be seen,
acknowledged or recognized… “I see you for what you
are and you do not serve my highest good or the good
of all concerned. I choose God over this worldly desire, I
am willing to remember that with God I lack nothing.”
See the spiritual leak for what it is, a
worldly pursuit vs a spiritual pursuit. Seek out as many
soulful experiences as possible throughout your day:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness
and self-control.
Dear God,
Grant me the vision and humility to recognize when I
am pursuing a worldly vs soulful feeling along with the
fortitude to choose YOU over it. Grant me the grace today
to release any pursuit quickly and easily that poses a threat
to the well-being of my soul.
