How to Let Go of Past Pain

Share

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

Let go of your grip on your past desert and wasteland so that your hands and heart will be open to receive the refreshment that comes with the choice to begin again with God, celebrating the uniqueness of God’s creative, loving Spirit that is your natural state of being…shake the desert and waste land off, look up to the right (access the creative part of the brain) and ask for what you want…believe that when you ask for what you want and it is aligned with those things of God…beauty, love, all things praise worthy, integrous, above reproach…you will receive that which you ask for…enjoy celebrating another gift of life today.

Too Often your subconscious mind is playing programs from your past that hold you back from stepping into the person God calls you to be NOW. One of my favorite quotes from The Passion takes place when Jesus has fallen when carrying the cross, Mary, his mother, runs to him to comfort him and Jesus reaches out to her and says: “Behold I make all things new.” The Easter weekend and time of Passover, reflect on those things in your life you want a fresh start on. Begin again, prune for growth. When you pull out the weeds that occupy your mind you make room for new thoughts that align with the person you are committed to being.

Two mindset statements can help you release the grip that shadows of the past have on you:

“That was then…this is now…I have so many more resources now than I had back then to help me remember my worth and capability to successfully move through challenging situations.

When you are anxious about whether or not you will get a desired outcome in your future, use the following statement to help you release the attachment you have:

“I am willing to explore the possibility that I am OK with OR without my desired outcome.  I am valued in the eyes of God and successful just as I am WITH or WITHOUT this….desired outcome or situation…I am ENOUGH just as I am with God if I get this OR not.”

As you release the hold your past has on you as well as your desired future outcomes, you enter into the experience of life NOW…truly you lack nothing in the present moment.

Your playfulness along with a lighthearted approach to life will emerge to frontlines of your life as you let GO of unhealthy attachments to the past or future.

God is with you and delights in the wonderment of the creation of YOU, as you do the same your world will explode with new possibilities, flexibility and delight.

The following NLP technique is a powerful method to help dissociate yourself from past painful events:

Take a movie clip from something you are having a hard time letting go of from your past, that evokes some anxiety, shame, guilt, or regret.
Use the modality of your imagination to create a movie clip that expresses the worst possible situation associated with your past pain. Put this on a movie screen and picture yourself watching it in a movie theater play it forwards and backwards in color in less than 5 seconds.  If you experience anxiety watching it then imagine yourself floating out of your body up into the projector room protected by thick glass.  Again play your clip forward and backwards quickly, add funny music and then drain the color out of the clip.  Now check in with your response to your pending fear or anxiety.  If it’s still high then repeat the steps.

Feeling Lost? God is after you.

“3 Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:1-7
